abstract = "The accident occurred in Mariana-MG causing a total leak of
62,000,000 m³ of sediment, generating an immeasurable
socio-environmental impact. The turbidity rate causes the
scattering of the incident radiation in the subsurface, allowing
to measure a dynamics between the evolution and subsequent
involution of the reflectance levels to long time. This paper has
the objective to accomplish a temporal evaluation (before the
disaster: 10/13/2015, after: 11/30/2015, 01/01/2016 and
05/03/2016) of the spectral response in nearby water targets from
the mouth of the river Doce, downstream of the disaster, with
orbital images. The surface reflectance images were redesigned for
the Southern Hemisphere, and by map of algebra the values for each
spectral band of the OLI / LANDSAT-8 (reflective spectrum) were
obtained over the 04 periods, in the 09 monitoring points
established. The differences in the behavior of the spectral bands
in all the analyzed samples show an expressive contrast of the
surface reflectance rates before and after the environmental
disaster (2 scenarios), that is, after the accident the values
found were much higher. The spectral bands B1, B2, B3, B4 and B5
presented statistical significance in the distinction between the
two scenarios, while bands B6 and B7 were not sensitive to
increase of sediment adsorbed in the water after the environmental
disaster. The comparison between the surface reflectance values
and the monthly precipitation, allowed to identify the influence
of rain (transport of river bank and bottom sediment) on orbital
estimates.",
